There are hundreds of hotels, hostels, condominiums, condotels, motels, and frankly sleazy joints to stay in Makati and having lived here for 3 years, I've either stayed in them, driven by them, or spent the right amount of time in one. Quite simply, this is my list of the 5 Makati hotels I would recommend any first, second, or third time traveler to Makati. If you've been to Makati more than 3 times, chances are you've either found a condominium or a more permanent home. But for most people, coming to Makati will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity (unless you're married to a Filipino or are doing business here) so stay in these 5 Makati hotels based on your budget.
Shangri-La Hotel
The grandest hotel in Makati with one of the grandest lobbies I've scene in any hotel around the world. The rooms are plush, large and comfortable. The service is excellent - from the doorwomen, to the beautiful receptionists, to the chef at the buffet. And what a buffet - each night stay entitles you to the breakfast buffet which tops almost anything I've been to in Las Vegas. It's that good. All the usual amenities and central to Ayala Center, Greenbelt and downtown Makati. Room rates per night range from $140 to $220 depending on availability.
Rockwell - Joya Towers and Lofts
I live here now and its the nicest neighborhood by far in Makati. Sometimes, I don't even feel that I'm in the Philippines as the streets are quiet, clean, and free of polluting traffic. Joya Towers and Lofts, one of the many condominium complexes in Rockwell, rents studio, 1 and 2 bedroom units from about $125 for a studio to $300 for a 2 bedroom. The building is full of expats, the well-to-do, retirees, and people like you - first time visitors to Makati. Each room comes with internet and a free breakfast for two at Le Figaro downstairs. A great alternative if you want to be away from the hussle and noise of Ayala Avenue and near the luxurious PowerPlant Mall.
The Tower Inn
This was the second hotel I stayed during my first trip to Makati. I paid about $50 per night all in, with a free breakfast and if I only had $50 a night to spend for a room in Makati, this is where I would stay. The rooms are clean, tidy, and come with small television - what you would expect for $50 but perfect even for a few days which I've done. The Tower Inn is located across the street from Greenbelt and is near the New World Hotel. The perfect budget hotel in Makati, if you can get a reservation.
